The hydrological processes are aleatory; this means that their occurrences cannot be known ahead of time with accuracy. In the field of the Theory of Probabilities, theoretical models of probabilities were developed for hypothetical processes that gathered certain characteristic. The statistician is in charge of selecting instruments for the investigators' use. When working with natural phenomenons (intrinsically aleatory), it could be outlined the necessity of using this type of techniques or of adopting theoretical models for design or forecast. This implies, necessarily, the use of the techniques and statistical methods.
